Introduction
UnifyApps connects to OpenAI and returns the models that account exposes, so they can be inventoried and brought under policy alongside every other platform you run.
OpenAI is the clearest example of the split between the two registries: the connection is a model route, and agents built on OpenAI are governed through the SDK instead.
What UnifyApps discovers
An OpenAI connection returns the account's model catalogue. A single connection commonly returns well over a hundred models, which is the account's catalogue rather than the models you actually call.
That distinction matters when you read the Model Registry: most rows will show 0 spans and Inactive. See Model Registry overview.

Note: You do not instrument a discovered agent. Its traces arrive through the connection — there is no SDK step and nothing to install. A discovered agent shows
Setup Pendinguntil its first trace lands, which usually means it simply has not run yet, not that you owe it work. Give it real usage and it flips toActiveon its own. While it is pending, the agent detail page still shows aSetuptab carrying SDK and OTLP instructions. On a discovered agent those do not apply — the tab appears for anything awaiting a first trace, however it was registered. See Agent Statuses.
Governing agents built on OpenAI
The Discovery connection covers models. For an agent you built on OpenAI, register it manually against OpenAI Agent SDK in + Register Agent and instrument it so it reports traces.
So a typical OpenAI setup uses both routes: one connection for the model catalogue, and one manual registration per agent. See Register an Agent Manually.
Add the connection
Step 1: Open + Add Application in Discovery
Step 2: Select OpenAI
Step 3: Confirm Observe · Advisory
Step 4: Choose the connection and click Connect
One connection covers one account. Two accounts are two connections, with their own owners and their own catalogues.
Verify
DISCOVERED shows a model count once the sweep finishes. Import the models you want to govern through + Add Model, picking from the connection's catalogue.
Limitations
Models, not agents — The connection returns a model catalogue. Agents are registered through the SDK.
The catalogue is not your usage — Most returned models will never be called. Sort by activity to separate inventory from production.
Observation only — Only
Flagtakes effect.
Troubleshooting
I connected OpenAI but my agents are not in the registry. Expected. Register them against OpenAI Agent SDK.
Over a hundred models appeared. Also expected — that is the account's catalogue. Govern the ones with spans first.
I cannot find OpenAI in the Register Agent picker. It is not there by design. Use OpenAI Agent SDK.
