Skills attach reusable expertise to an agent, shaping how it thinks and responds rather than giving it something new to do.

Overview

Skills are described as "reusable expertise that teach your agent how to think and respond." A skill is guidance and know-how, not a callable function: where a tool lets the agent do something, a skill shapes how it reasons and responds. The Skills table lists the skills attached to this agent. Add ones from the skill library with Add skill.

Adding a Skill

Use Add skill to open the picker, search the skill library, select one or more skills, and Add them. Only published skills can be attached — a skill has to be deployed before it shows up as available. If everything is already attached or nothing is published yet, you'll see No skills to add — "Every skill is already added to this agent, or you haven't created any yet."

Previewing a Skill Before Adding It

Use View on a skill to open a read-only preview of what it contains — its written guidance and any files — along with when it was last updated. Preview a skill to confirm it teaches the behavior you want before attaching it, then add it from the same view.

The Skills Table and Removing a Skill

Each row shows the Skill name, its Description, and its Version (a V{n} pill; a dash if the skill has never been deployed). Hovering a row also reveals a small external-link icon just after the skill name: clicking it opens that skill's own editor in a new browser tab, so you can change the skill without losing your place in the agent. Clicking the row itself still opens the read-only preview.

To detach a skill, use Remove on its row — the confirmation reads Remove skill? — "'{name}' will be removed from this agent. The skill itself won't be deleted." — so it stays available for other agents. If no skills are attached yet, the empty state reads No skills added yet — "Add reusable skills that teach this agent how to think and respond."

What Attaching a Skill Does at Runtime

Attaching grants this agent access to the skill — the skill asset itself is shared, never copied, which is why removing it here doesn't delete it. At run time the agent sees each attached skill's name and description in a built-in skill-loading tool, and pulls in the full guidance (and file listing) only when a request matches — so attach freely; unused skills cost the agent nothing until they're relevant.

Two practical consequences: the description decides whether the agent recognizes when to use the skill, so keep it specific; and skill names must be unique per agent — adding a second skill with the same name is rejected.

Note: Skills shared with the current user or their teams, and skills shared with everyone, are available to the conversation alongside the ones attached here; for an agent team, member agents' skills count too.
