An MCP Server is a hosted endpoint that exposes a chosen set of tools and prompts to external MCP clients — apps like Claude, an IDE, or any Model Context Protocol‑compatible client — while keeping each server's security and operation independent from the rest of your workspace.
Overview
The MCP Servers screen lists every server in the project, with an on/off toggle, MCP Server Name, Description, Apps Used (icons of the applications its tools use), Tags, Owner, and Last Updated. If your role can view standard assets, the list splits into MCP Servers (built in your workspace) and Standard MCP Servers (shipped with the platform, read-oriented). Rows load 30 at a time, newest first, and clicking a row opens that server's configuration.
Before you've created any server, the screen shows an empty state: "Add your first MCP Server" — "Specialized integration endpoints that expose tools, prompts and resources."
Creating a Server
Click New Server (shown only if you can create MCP Servers) to open the New MCP Server dialog:
Field | Required | Details |
|---|---|---|
Name | Yes | Placeholder "Enter MCP Server name". |
Tags | No | Placeholder "Select tags" — type to create a new tag inline. |
Description | No | Placeholder "Describe your MCP Server here...". |
On save, you land directly in the new server's Tools section, ready to add its first tool.
What Happens Automatically
Saving a new server sets up two things behind the scenes:
The server starts Inactive — clients can't call it until you switch it to Active.
An API group is created for it, named after the server, with a URL path derived from the name (lowercased, other characters replaced by dashes). The group holds the server's two protocol endpoints.
Endpoint | Path |
|---|---|
Event stream |
|
JSON-RPC messages |
|
Open this API group anytime with the Manage API button in the server header.
Editing a Server Later
Use Edit in the server's row menu on the MCP Servers list. The Edit MCP Server dialog has the same Name, Tags, and Description fields as the create dialog.
Other Row Actions
Beyond the on/off toggle (which flips the server between Active and Inactive immediately, no confirmation), the row menu offers Edit, Share (grant other users access to the server record), and Delete — each shown only if you have that permission. Delete asks "Delete MCP Server?" — "Are you sure you want to delete the MCP Server '<name>'? This action cannot be undone."
Note: While a server is Inactive, clients calling it receive a "MCP Server not found" error — flipping the toggle is an instant way to pause access without deleting anything.
