Decision Tables

Decision Tables

Overview

A decision table stores business rules as a grid. Condition Variables are the "if" columns, Result Variables are the "then" columns, and each row is a rule.

At runtime, usually from an automation, you pass in inputs. The matching rows are found and their result values come back. Use a decision table wherever your logic is really a lookup, such as pricing tiers, routing, eligibility or approval thresholds.

The Decision Tables screen

The Decision Tables list shows every table you can access. For each table, it shows the name, description, owner and when it was last updated. When you view all workspaces, a Workspace column also appears.

  • Use the search box to find a table by name.

  • Click a row to open the table's editor.

  • Use a row's menu to Edit, Share or Delete the table. Each action appears only if you have that permission.

Create a decision table

  1. Click New Table. You need create permission.

  2. In the New Decision Table dialog, enter a Decision table name. The name must be unique.

  3. Select the Workspace and, optionally, add a Description.

  4. Create the table. The table's editor opens, where you add variables and rows.

Deleting a table can't be undone. Any automation that still runs the table will fail to find it.
